2K Golden Eye Film Scanner


Icon Plus in collaboration with Studio Sklavis Film Lab.Co applies the 16 and 35mm Cine or Picture film scanning via the Golden Eye film scanner, a high resolution (4K) digitizing unit.

The 2Κ «Golden Eye» film scanner, is manufactured by Image Systems ΑΒ in Sweden. The Golden Eye film scanner can handle brand new picture and cine, as well as extremely sensitive archive film, or film that their length has been altered due to time (shrunk) or various cine films with various lengths.

In this film scanning processing, Icon Plus attends the digital part of the procedure, being the Film scanning, the Digital Processing and Restoration. Sklavis Film Lab. Co is a very well experienced film processing and development laboratory (being the first laboratory applying in Greece, 1966) applying the material rehabilitation and cleanup of the cine film (Ultrasonic, ultrasound procedure, equipment LIPSNER SMITH).

This collaboration of the two companies, providing their Know-how, sets a new standard in their potential, particularly in digital processing, In the production of of a high resolution digital intermediate (2Κ), and in cine film restoration.
Golden Eye introduces a new concept for all scanning applications including film visual effects, features, commercials, episodic TV and just about anything shot on film.

The 2Κ «Golden Eye» film scanner provides the following advantages, compared to other film scanners:

Excellent scanned image quality.

Well proven The Golden Eye is reliable, robust and well proven, as the scanner has been used in the automotive and military industry for many years.

Compact unit. The scanner is the most compact scanner on the market W=65cm, L= 68cm, H= 35cm, which makes the space needed for installation small and the unit easy to move. Consequently, the Golden Eye Scanner can easily be transported to archives instead of the opposite. This turns to be a great advantage in case archive material is of extremely high value, or in case it is classified as strictly confidential.

Shorten the processing time. The Golden Eye Film scanner uses line scan technology with continuous movement, which gives high scanning rates without decreasing the image quality.

No operational wear and tear. Golden Eye uses Capstan film transportation. This offers less wear of the film and perforations thanks to the continuous movement. Capstan movement also means that Golden Eye handles old archive film that may have shrunk or have uneven length.

The Golden Eye film scanner is integrated with the powerful Golden Eye software package for storage of digitized film sequences and is completely software controlled from the convenient menu system. All operations including film positioning, scanner control and all operator selections are under software control.

Key Codes are automatically read by the camera and handled by the Golden Eye software package. No need for complicated (and expensive) mechanical solutions that introduces operational failures and demand for continuous maintenance program.

The system supports automatic cut list operations like batch recording based on key code or frame number. An example is automatic scan from ALE cut list.

The Golden Eye software offers a large set of tools for image enhancement: RGB Color, Gamma, brightness, contrast and white balance along others are features that are easy to adjust using tools like Vector scope and Waveform.

The system exports to all main output file formats on the market, including DPX, MPEG, multiple TIFF and Cineon. Processing different film types and formats are handled by easy configurations: Running Color or B/W, Positive or Negative film, 3, 4 or 6 perforations are just some samples of the available possibilities.

The company Image Systems has a strong background in software development. Areas like motion analysis, image processing, file format transformations and image enhancement has been the main focus for the last three decades.

Image Systems has worked with film scanning since the end of the ’80s. The first scanners were delivered to the Military and Automotive industry. Golden Eye was introduced to the Broadcasting industry in the year 2005.
